Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 midwife, who is passionate about empowering women in physiological births to join our team of highly skilled and enthusiastic midwives at our Oasis Birth Centre. The post holder will work also closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of care and safety for women, pregnant people and families.

Our alongside birth centre opened in December 2010 and offers 5 labouring rooms – 2 with birthing pools. We promote a philosophy of holistic, woman-centred care in a home-from-home environment, delivered by a dedicated team of passionate midwives with a vision to ensure a safe, calm and unique birthing experience.

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and forward thinking midwives to provide women centred care and a positive pregnancy and birth experience. Come and join us!!

Main duties of the job
Provide woman and babies with high quality, safe midwifery care during childbirth and low-risk outpatient induction of labour. The care will be evidence-based and holistic in meeting women’s needs, working closely with the full multi-disciplinary team to create individualised plans for our women and families.

The post holder will be suitably qualified in all aspects of autonomous midwifery practice including labour care in waterbirths, perineal suturing, cannulation and have passed the NLS course.

The post holder will take part in governance and audit, providing key performance statistics for the unit as we continue to grow and develop our service.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the provision of autonomous, evidence-based, women-centred midwifery care, whilst working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, other agencies, representatives and service users.

The post holder will provide support to other midwives within the service and may be designated to take a management responsibility for the midwifery practice or team in the absence of the Band 7 Midwife.

Person Specification

Essential and desirable

Essential

  • Degree in midwifery or equivalent
  • 2 years relevant post qualification experience and continuing professional development
  • Relevant clinical skills and experience
  • Up to date evidence-based practice and knowledge of clinical pathways
  • Experience of care of women having waterbirths or homebirths

Desirable

  • Neonatal examination of the newborn
  • Clinical practice in community with homebirths and waterbirths
  • Intrapartum care midwifery experience on a labour ward
